Founded by Julia Johnston in 2016 (as the subsidiary business, Straight-up Safety), the company was initially set up to focus on safety systems, processes, audits, and advice with the introduction of the new Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulations.

Julia recognised the need for businesses and their owners to have fast access to specialist but practical advice across a wide range of topics. The company was built on offering fast, friendly, and size-appropriate solutions to its clients. This ethos, combined with Julia’s 20 years of professional experience across a wide range of industries led to a groundswell of repeat business and a widening of the services requested by clients.

As a result, the company expanded and partnered with like-minded professionals in their field to offer a complete solution to businesses, both big and small.

With more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry, including quarrying, civil construction, road network maintenance, and residential building, Julia has developed a deep understanding of the operations and risks in a range of industries. Additionally, she has over 15 years of experience in health, safety, quality, and environmental management, having worked with large organisations in construction, manufacturing, and agricultural industries, as well as small to medium-sized organisations.

She is skilled at effectively communicating with all levels of an organisation, tailoring her communication style and approach to suit.

• Temporary Traffic Management Planner Warrant, demonstrating expertise in planning and managing traffic in construction sites and other temporary work locations.
